Students Help Local Business
Our students get real-life applications daily in serving others and one another. But for our students to have the opportunity to apply classroom learning and knowledge in real time for a nearby business in the community is a special experience.
Students in Joe Swann's web design class, as well as Shani Nokes's graphic arts class, recently got to do just that.
Mr. Swann's name was mentioned to Jan-Res, a cleaning supply company on Dickerson Road, as someone who might help the family-owned business with getting a website created. Jan-Res is a "sister spin-off" of a 30-year-old business. The company had existed for about a year without one and had depended entirely on social media and word-of-mouth alone for sales. Mr. Swann told the company that as a teacher he wouldn't have time to design their site, but asked whether he might allow his students to work on such a project. Jan-Res was fully on board. The site launched yesterday (April 25) and as of last night already had 112 visitors and two orders!
The website is a collaborative effort between DA's web design class and the graphic arts class, which traveled to the store and took photos of the company's products to put on the site.
Jan-Res specializes in cleaning supplies for carpets (including pet stains), tiles, hardwoods, and odors. Visit www.jan-res.com. The company, located right around the corner from our campus, has a store front, also, and walk-ups are welcomed.
