Random Acts
Students in the Upper School are serving others through a variety of ministries throughout the month of March.
Last fall, students in grades 7-12 were organized into monthly “community” groups, or small groups. They have met monthly for devotional time and discussion guided by a faculty member. For March, each group chose a way to serve others during the month, such as collection projects supporting other non-profits (toiletries for the homeless, goody bags for children at a Haitian orphanage, gently used athletic cleats and gently used books for underprivileged children, etc.). They have also done simple "random acts of kindness."
One of the best parts is that all of the ideas have been initiated by the students!
A group of Middle School boys chose to wash long-time Upper School science teacher Mrs. Beverly Blomquist’s vehicle, then “litter” it with notes of what she meant to our school and to the students themselves.
Mrs. Dianne Bolin’s group of high-school girls chose to host a brunch for our hard-working food service staff and Mr. Bobby Leggs, our Upper School custodian (also better known as the “minister of the interior”!)
Another group of high-school girls went next door to visit residents of Grace Manor and play indoor corn hole. We’re not quite sure who had more fun—the residents or the students!
Another group of Middle School boys chose to walk over the campus, including our new cross country trail, and pick up trash.
Following the example of Jesus, our students are striving to serve, not be served--one of the hallmarks of what we call "The DA Way."
