DA Vision and Campus Update
Davidson Academy has announced plans to become a dual-campus school with both a Nashville location and a Hendersonville location. The school will continue operating at its current campus in Nashville and has agreed to sell a portion of land it owns in Hendersonville as a step toward a Sumner County campus.
In 2006, DA purchased 76 acres between SR386 (Vietnam Veterans Blvd.) and Stop 30 near Drakes Creek Road/Indian Lake Boulevard. It has operated its current campus at 1414 Old Hickory Boulevard in Nashville since 1980.
"Our Board of Trustees and school leadership have been deliberate in planning for the future of our two properties. Our current campus is thriving, and we remain committed to this location as our flagship site. We are also taking advantage of a unique opportunity to move closer toward a Hendersonville presence that our leaders and donors envisioned when we initially acquired the property. The timing is right to take a step toward a new dual-campus vision," said Tim Johnson, Headmaster.
Davidson Academy currently has the largest number of students enrolled in Kindergarten through 12th grade in several years, thanks to increasing enrollment from families in Davidson, Montgomery, Robertson, and Sumner counties, among other areas. The school has made a number of recent enhancements to facilities and programs and will continue to invest in its flagship location.
School officials will submit a request to the Hendersonville Planning Commission to sell a 20-acre tract of its land to a local residential development company. The transaction still leaves DA 56 acres to build any type of school campus to fit its future needs. The Nashville campus is about the same size.
The specific timing and scope of development on Davidson Academy's Hendersonville campus is to be determined.
Founded in 1980, Davidson Academy is one of the largest independent schools in the Nashville area, enrolling more than 700 students in Kindergarten through 12th grade.
