Shield Society
Shields are earned only, never given. The unique lapel pin is awarded to Upper School students upon recommendation of the faculty or staff for an event, action, or deed deemed to be "exceptional." Recipients, in some way, demonstrate the character, virtue, and integrity that both represents and distinguishes our school,
which we now refer to as "The DA Way."
Examples include:
* A student sticks a note of encouragement inside each of classmates chemistry binders;
* A senior who intentionally reached out to younger and new transfer students
she recognized who were struggling socially;
* A student who reached out to a new international student sitting at lunch alone
and invited her to the "senior table;"
* Two students who donated all they money they had received as gifts and had saved
to a fund collected to help an employee with his spouse's organ transplant
* A student body president who recognized that Teacher Appreciation Week had previously been more of a Lower School focus and organized an Upper School emphasis.
* A senior who stepped up and volunteered to lead a Bible study for eighth-grade boys.
